First Steps in a New Country

Hi,

by thinking about the first few months here in the US it's worth writing about it. I came here in January 2006 which was a fairly cold month, so probably not the best choice for a warm welcome. However, initially things went fine and I arranged getting an apartment by the beginning of February which was most important to me at that time. Just before I moved in I got sick by something called "walking pneumonia". While the symptoms were not clear and yet I wasn't really used to the US health system I went to the doctor only by mid February. I got treatment by antibiotics, but finally managed to get rid of the walking pneumonia by mid to end of March. I also made the experience that buying a car as a foreigner isn't too easy, so I sticked to buying a bike and go to work by bike every day (more healthy anyway). And... you get noticed by the Americans that way as biking seems to be rather special to the US.
